Christmas Present

Christmas seems to change when you get married. The one day a year you remember as a kid morphs into 3 - mother-in-laws side Christmas, Christmas with my parents, Christmas with hers. I am not complaining of course - good food comes with each day of Celebration, the gifts get spread out, and you feel relaxed pretty much the whole month of December.

This was the first year since I (josh) moved to Michigan that I have spent Christmas here. We were in The Ville at our house, with my mom and dad, and Layne's sister, Brynne. (And Lloyd, the long haired mini-datsun...dacsun...dactsun?? I don't know. But it is the dog, not the car.)

We spent Rice family Christmas in West Virginia. It was a beautiful state, and a whirlwind of a weekend. One of those where you meet cousins, and 6th removed relatives you didn't even know existed. For me they were mostly strangers, really, since I think the ties of marriage only go so far in the family. Layne's 3rd great uncle from her grandmother's aunt's side twice removed tried to convince me that loaning him $300 for the slots was legit since "we're family." I put a horse head in his bed and he got the message. (All a joke - I do like to drag it out.)

Enjoy the ramblings, as there will be more to come! I am off to watch 'Friends' reruns with my beautiful wife....it is one of our favorite things!
